Time for a change

The current Board of Directors of Words of Peace TV in Canada is proud of the success of our national TV show to date,, and is now wishing to invite a new Board to take this project to the next level.

The search is on for at least 3 new volunteer Board members who are passionate about this message of peace and have professional or management expertise they can bring to this project.

The Board directs a legal entity, Words of Peace Canada (WOPC), a registered Canadian non-profit organization. 

As a team, the board makes decisions that further the development and success of Words of Peace TV in Canada, both online and through national cable broadcast.

Role Description

Objective of Role
  1. To fulfill the legal obligations as a Director of Words of Peace Canada, a Canadian non-profit organization.
  2. To ensure the successful development of the Words of Peace TV series across all media, with a focus on Canadian content .
Description
  • There are a minimum of three members of this Board of Directors
  • Familiarize yourself with the regulatory environment of non-profit organizations (e.g http://www.legal-info-legale.nb.ca/en/index.php?page=welcome_aboard_becoming)
  • Familiarize yourself with relevant regulations of the CRTC. (Coaching provided)
  • Participate in regular Board meetings to make decisions to further Objective 2
  • As part of a team, maintain a system for keeping informed about WOPC TV operations on a timely basis
  • As part of a team, liaise with the WOPG - TV global management team
  • Oversee contractors for compliance to WOPC - TV quality, production and budgetary goals
  • Support a fundraising team.
Skills Required
  • Team Player
  • Experienced decision maker, ideally as a Board member or in managing committees or corporate teams
  • Competent in reviewing contracts (with legal advice as required)
  • Familiarity with at least one media: broadcast, online or mobile
  • Good verbal and email communication skills (English or ideally Eng/French)
  • Basic Mac or PC computer skills.
Resources Required
  • Private computer with MS Office or equivalent
  • Free Skype account.
Resources Provided
  • Background coaching about CRTC regulations
  • Orientation on Vision TV, our current national broadcaster and others
  • Legal advice when required
  • Support of volunteers for specific functions e.g: fundraising; data collection, and more.
Time Commitment
  • Initial: self-determined during orientation
  • Ongoing: 1-2 hours per week
  • Duration: 1 year, renewable.
